goNORTH opens its doors to bands, filmmakers and creatives

goNORTH Festival (4-5 Jun) is Scotland's annual showcase festival for the creative industries, with a 2-day programme of concerts, events, screenings, workshops and panels where emerging musicians, filmmakers, artists and writers can come face to face with the industry's top movers and shakers. 

At their press launch yesterday in Glasgow, goNORTH's director Amanda Millen likened GoNorth to Scotland's version of Austin, Texas showcase festival South By Southwest, going on to explain the opportunities for engagement and advancement open to all the artists who take part.

Submissions from bands, labels and solo artists to play at the 2014 outing of the festival open on Friday (24 Feb). Details of how to get involved can be found here. Successful applicants will play at GoNorth, as well as potentially being offered opportunities elsewhere, with goNORTH's media partners Wickerman Festival, Belladrum, and Loopallu.There is also the chance to feature on the annual goNORTH compilation, released via Music Week.

Film submissions open the same day, with organisers on the lookout for new talent and features from across the world. Last year's film strand featured new work from Scotland, Africa and the USA. last year's film strand ad two themes – 'WIDE OPEN' and 'EXTREME' – this year's themes will be announced on Friday.  

Events and workshops are all free to enter for delegates attending the festival – details of how to get hold of a pass will also be made available as more details of the speakers, bands and labels in attendance this year are revealed. Last year's lineup included Campfires In Winter, Casual Sex, Fat Goth, Galoshins, and Hector Bizerk, among others.
