It’s been announced this morning that Franz Ferdinand will headline this year’s Edinburgh Hogmanay Concert. The appearance will cap off a winning year for the Glasgow band, who returned back in February after a four year absence with their fifth studio album Always Ascending, which recently made the shortlist for this year’s Scottish Album of the Year Award.

“Hogmanay is the greatest party of the year and there is nowhere in the world like Scotland to celebrate it,” said the band’s frontman, Alex Kapranos. “Just thinking about bringing in the bells in Edinburgh gets me excited. It’s going to be some night!” With some of the most danceable, chantable indie anthems of the last two decades, Kapranos and co’s Hogmanay show should have the Edinburgh crowds in fine fettle for seeing in the New Year.

Franz Ferdinand will be joined by fellow Glaswegians Free Love, the duo of Suzanne Rodden and Lewis Cook fka Happy Meals, and Devon quartet Metronomy, who’ll be bringing their idiosyncratic brand of irresistible basslines and whimsical electronic pop to the Princes Street Gardens concert.
