Big City 2024: Mogwai announce Glasgow festival
Glasgow post-rockers Mogwai unveil the inaugural eclectic lineup of their very own hometown festival, Big City
Hot on the heels of The Glasgow Weekender – hosted by Belle & Sebastian and featuring artists like CMAT and Camera Obscura – post-rock leviathans Mogwai have unveiled the lineup for their very own festival, Big City, which is headed for Glasgow’s Queen’s Park on Saturday 29 June. The band are set to headline the festival, their first show back in Scotland since their two-night stint at Glasgow’s Barrowland in December 2022.
Curated in partnership with indie promoter Regular Music, the Big City bill is comprised of 12 artists, four of which are signed to Mogwai’s record label Rock Action. These artists include Normal People soundtrackers Cloth, equally entrancing SAY Award-winners Kathryn Joseph and Sacred Paws, and bedroom-born Hull shoegazers bdrmm. Also appearing at the all-dayer are a few big names such as the spellbinding Slowdive, the hypnotic Nadine Shah, NEU!’s krautrock kahuna Michael Rother, Rough Trade’s groovy Goat Girl and Geoff Barrow's infectiously motorik BEAK>.
The rest of this rambunctious roster is taken up by local Glasgow acts such as ethereal electro-pop artist Elisabeth Elektra and diabolically dancey duo Free Love. Artists will be split up between two stages under a big top tent with bars and food vendors, and an additional literary tent will be pitched in association with White Rabbit Books, who published Mogwai guitarist Stuart Braithwaite’s musical memoir Spaceships Over Glasgow in 2022.
“It’s great for us to have this event in our hometown of Glasgow,” says Braithwaite of this exciting debut festival. “It’s an honour to have so many brilliant artists join us for what promises to be a special day.”
Tickets for Big City go on sale on Fri 9 Feb at 9am from bigcity.scot
