Tiger Selections is a new compilation album put together by the students of Riverside Music College that includes some of the best new and unsigned Scottish independent music around today. The album, which will be released on CD and available digitally at all major outlets via the students' own label Little Tiger Records on 1 June, features tracks by fourteen bands from all over Scotland, including Edwin Organ, ST.MARTiiNS and SKJØR to name a few. You can listen to an exclusive premiere of the album in the player below, ahead of its official release on Friday.
"It has been a rewarding process, and a fantastic experience to finally be able to see the album released and actually hold the physical CD," says Daria Jaszcz, Head of Promotions for the project.
She continues: "We’ve been actively involved in the entire project: from scouting the bands, mastering the tracks, artwork design, promotion of our product, social media for the label, launch gig for the album, liaising with industry professionals and distribution of the album. Everything we have achieved with this project has been undertaken with the aim of giving us real-life experience within the music industry, which is why we created a physical CD featuring all these talented artists we’d spent hours talking about, as opposed to simply studying the process as an abstract classroom concept.
"The idea for the compilation started within our A&R listening sessions, where we were individually given the task of presenting an unsigned artist to the class that we thought Little Tiger should ‘sign’ and work with for the next few months. We would select one artist from each A&R session and eventually it became increasingly difficult to ‘vote out’ and choose one single artist. Those sessions could get quite heated as we all felt strongly about the artists we presented. Therefore, instead of selecting one artist to approach, the idea emerged to have fourteen artists on a compilation album of the most exciting new Scottish talent.
"I’d say I’m most excited about Edwin Organ, as it’s refreshing to see an artist inject an element of subtle humour in their work. I also feel the tracks by Fauves, Sway and Walt Disco are standouts, but in all honesty you can’t go far wrong with any of the other artists: Acrylic, Retro Video Club, ST.MARTiiNS, I.SOLAR, Domiciles, Fenella, Shredd, SKJØR, Tongues and Static Union. All the artists chosen are there for a reason: we feel that they have potential to take their music further.
"We’ve enjoyed working hard on Tiger Selections, and encourage to buy our CD and support great new Scottish talent."
Tiger Selections is released on 1 Jun via Little Tiger Records.
