Glasgow four-piece Sister John, fronted by Amanda McKeown, are set to release latest single Friends, taken from their debut album, Returned From Sea, which was released via Last Night From Glasgow (Annie Booth, TeenCanteen, BooHooHoo) at the end of last year.

Friends – due for release on 16 February with brand new B-side I Know the Truth – is a beautiful lilting ballad driven by soaring strings and lifted by McKeown’s delicate vocal. Fresh from their packed Celtic Connections show in Glasgow last week, we’re delighted to be premiering the stunning black and white music video that accompanies the new track, which you can watch in the player above or on YouTube.

“On the second side of Returned From Sea is a movement of four songs that sit together and Friends is a centrepiece of that,” McKeown tells us. “It’s about friendship. How we can feel together yet apart, different yet similarly human. It’s a very sparse arrangement where the strings carry the colour and drama of our sound.

“The video catches someone in the middle of a story and invites you to follow them,” she continues, “much in the same way as the album invites you to share a point of view.

“I wasn't sure about releasing the B-side I Know the Truth as it isn’t the finished article, but it should provide our fans with a glimpse into the beginnings of our recording and where album number two might be going.”

Returned From Sea is out now via Last Night From Glasgow and available to buy here; Friends is out on 16 Feb; Sister John play The Eagle Inn, Salford, 17 Feb
