Edinburgh’s Paradise Palms launch the fourth release from their in-house record label on 28 Jul in the form of The Weirding Way EP from M.O.T.O., which stands for Masters of the Ordinance.

M.O.T.O., aka Lesotho-born Baz Tembo, grew up in Johannesburg before relocating to Canada for his studies. The thesis for his PhD was about the Kryptonian Race – you know, the fictional extraterrestrial race of humanoids found in the DC Comics universe. It will therefore come as little surprise that inspiration for The Weirding Way came in the form of David Lynch’s cult sci-fi film Dune, set in a universe where the spice known as ‘melange’ is the most valuable substance, and its only source is the desert planet Arrakis. The end result of The Weirding Way is a woozy adventure through the moving images and sounds which occupy Tembo’s mind.

In preperation for The Weirding Way's release, The Skinny are delighted to be premiering the video for Longshot by M.O.T.O., taken from the first Paradise Palms compilation, Bonnie Tropical. Local filmmaker Magnus Huntly-Grant made the video, which you can watch in the player above. Of the track Tembo tells us: "The idea for Longshot is based on wanting something that all manner of logic will declare impossible – a person, a thing, what have you. But then suddenly it is, it happens, and it's beautiful, dark, and deadly. I imagined this idea as a kind of ritual summoning.”
