"A sonic triangle of electrified polyrhythms, spaced-out synth jams and off-kilter beats" is how London three-piece Strobes attempt to describe their occasionally indescribable debut album Brokespeak which was released on 25 Nov via Blood & Biscuits.

Formed of keyboardist Dan Nicholls (who has worked with Squarepusher and Matthew Herbert), drummer Joshua Blackmore (Troyka) and guitar and synth man Matt Calvert (Three Trapped Tigers / Heritage Orchestra), Strobes have created an album that eschews genre and feels free from time-stamps.

Of their new single Winder, taken from Brokespeak, Calvert tells us: “Winder is a good introduction to the typical elements of Dan’s writing for Strobes: fast tempos, weird rhythms disguised as backbeats, and some very nuts 'melodies'.

"Compared to other tracks though, it has a less synthy, quite raw ‘band’ feel. Winder sounds quite live, considering – there’s quite a straight up solo section for Dan and Josh to get their teeth into, whilst the outro is more like a ‘sounds’ solo for me to do glitched-up guitar stuff and laptop processing of the drums."
