Chuchoter – U Can Find (Video Premiere)

After a jam-packed year that saw them play The Skinny’s Pyramid Stage Takeover at Kelburn Garden Party and Stag & Dagger Festival, as well as supporting Be Charlotte, Edinburgh-based electronic duo Chuchoter are seeing out 2019 with a bang. Emily Smith and Owen McAllister play 432 Presents' The Great Western Festival on 23 November, but before that they’ve got a brand new music video to help whet your appetite; watch it in the player above, or on YouTube.

Directed by Charlotte Hendrick, the music video for U Can Find is set in a bingo hall and stars 85-year-old comedian Lynn Ruth Miller. The comedian plays Edith, sticking two fingers up at a guy who’s basically been leading her on. “What attracted me to Chuchoter’s music was the sharpness and humour with which they addressed the horrors of the modern dating pool,” Hendrick says. “I wanted to make a music video that reflected this sense of humour and didn’t take itself too seriously. The end result is a colourful film in which our main character Edith, an 85-year-old woman, takes back control in her own flamboyant way.”

Smith says: “When we heard the idea behind [the video] and read the scripts we were both just like, ‘Yes! Oh my god, we need to do this!’ It was just such a good fit for the song. The song is about reclaiming power and not putting up with shit behaviour from men, and I think this storyline and Lynn were just perfect for that message. And I like that it's fun, so while the message is like, ‘Fuck you, you're bad at sex, leave me alone’, it's also really tongue-in-cheek, which I think the song is as well – it doesnt take itself too seriously whilst still being fierce.”

McAllister adds: “Doing our first proper video felt so good and I think it gets the viciousness of the song across as well as the kind of fun we have when we play. I loved the shoot, I think it really captured the sleaziness of who the song’s about/against. U Can Find is all about biting back. Working with Lynn was so cool – she’s such a badass, doesn’t take any shit and was hilarious chat. She was a perfect fit for the tune! Love her!”
