Edinburgh duo Birdhead – Stephen Donkin and David Nicklen – are due to release their long-awaited second album, Massive Aggressive, in May via Good Gear Records. The Skinny are delighted to give you a glimpse at what to expect from the record with their throbbing new single Sunsleeper which comes complete with off-beat pulsing bleeps, an almost glam-rock rhythm section and Donkin's trademark scuzzy screamo vocals.

“Sunsleeper is a track that we have used to close shows for a while,” Donkin tells us. “It’s a big throbby bastard of a tune that we love playing live and we think we’ve managed to capture a lot of what we find exciting about it in the recorded version.

“We are also looking forward to getting the video for the song out there – we tried our best to make it look like we were playing Sunsleeper on The Word in 1993. I wonder what Terry Christian and Dani Behr would think of the tune… This is the first video for a while that we have made by ourselves. We just bought a load of green fabric from eBay and went at it with a couple of iPhones. I managed to get some mad footage of a jellyfish against a neon background in Osaka Aquarium when I was in Japan recently, and it made for a suitably cosmic backdrop for the video.

“We are really excited about this release as it feels like the start of gearing up towards releasing our second album," Donkin concludes, "which has had some trials and tribulations along the way – but that’s another story!” Watch the trippy psychedelic music video for Sunsleeper in the player above or on YouTube.
