The YYY's put on a show to make their contemporaries insane with jealously

Surely on the road to becoming the next superband, the Yeah Yeah Yeah's put on a show to make their contemporaries insane with jealously. Guitarist Nick Zinner was his usually inexpressive self, but with drummer Brian Chase inciting the crowd with inspired drumstick choreography and a performer like Karen O it really didn't matter. There was a fourth member with a suitably rock fro who came and went, but Karen O made it a show – with multiple amazing outfits, posturing to make Mick Jagger envious and a screech that has only intensified with time. They played most of the new album and it was enthusiastically received, but it was tracks from their debut like Black Tongue and Pin that sent the crowd nuts. Among the current crop of PR-styled pretenders and immature musically inept art-rock wannabes the Yeah Yeah Yeahs stand apart. [Xavier Toby]
