Vega 4 @ King Tut's

They carve out their niche early in the show and display confidence and assuredness in spades

While Alfa 9 relied too much on pyrotechnics and tired Pink Floyd riffs, Tracks' brand of white soul uplifts the audience, preparing them for the main event. Vega 4 immediately launch into towering powerful rock that echoes Snow Patrol, Travis and Coldplay. They carve out their niche early in the show and display confidence and assuredness in spades: their music fills the venue with heavy guitar and expansive drumming. Even in the cramped environment of Tut's, it is clear that these guys have the ambition and drive to play bigger gigs like T in the park or Glastonbury. When the singer tells the audience that Glaswegians have a lot of soul and that he feels the warmth of the Tut's audience, he's being sincere. They might not be the most original bunch but they get the crowd dancing and they play catchy sing-along anthems. [Vince Hillaire]
