UnkleJam @ Clyde Auditorium

falsetto vocals that mix a little funk, a little soul and a lot of pop

UnkleJam are a funkadelic trio, incorporating falsetto vocals that mix a little funk, a little soul and a lot of pop. With some instantly catchy pop hooks, interesting wardrobe choices and plenty of bling, comparisons with Outkast are easy to make. Debut single Love Ya even makes use of the "shake it" refrain. However, shaking it may be a little lost on this mostly seated audience - and that's just the half who aren't at the bar outside. Nevertheless, the three year-old dancing in the aisles seems to be getting into it. Taking their name from Funkadelic's 1979 album, Uncle Jam Wants You, the trio may really live up to their potential in a venue built for dancing. Slightly androgynous and reminiscent of Prince, UnkleJam are a refreshing counterpoint to skinny-jeaned, messy-haired ubiquitous indie kids. [Julie Paterson]
