guitarist Andy Dunlop struts and scissor-kicks like he's auditioning for an AC/DC tribute band

Travis may be resurfacing from a three-year blip, but if the atmosphere at tonight's Xfm competition-winners gig is anything to go by their fans are only too willing to come out of hibernation. The set is peppered with tracks from their debut album, taking us all the way back to their harder-rocking roots, and guitarist Andy Dunlop struts and scissor-kicks like he's auditioning for an AC/DC tribute band. As always, though, it's Fran's boyish charms that steal the show, albeit with a few grey hairs sneaking in around the temples. When he turns the PA off and leads us all in an acoustic version of Flowers In The Window the gathered faithful manage a note-perfect rendition, and even at a distance he glows with pride. Forget 12 Memories, Travis have got that good feeling back. [Dan Coxon]
