The Presets @ King Tut's, 6 Apr

This evening, King Tuts is sparsely populated with an assortment of waifs and strays awaiting the electro disco sleaze of The Presets, though with two EPs and their debut album now landed, strangely only a handful of people react to the opening tracks. It is no surprise then that the lead single Are You the One, a rousing electro-funk creation, gets the crowd into their dancing shoes. Its synthesised, filtered vocal lubricates itself across the dark, beguiling orgy of sultry synths, fractured with toneless beats and a dirty bass line. With their combination of sinister dance and sweaty rock, a larger following could easily become converts to The Presets' sound. Only the low numbers restrain the atmosphere, so make sure the next time these purveyors of filth come, they are welcomed in greater numbers - the outcome could be downright scary.
