The Needles @ Barfly

full of energy, verve and insanely catchy tunes

Starting a set at twenty past midnight in front of an apathetic audience that has, for the most part, been drinking for hours can't be the most appetising of assignments for an up and coming band. Nevertheless The Needles take to the task like the eager young pups that they are and play a taut and muscular set full of energy, verve and insanely catchy tunes. Guitarist and lead singer Dave Dixon pulls out all the stops, jumping around the stage like an amphetamine crazed monkey and chatting non stop between songs. The enthusiasm he shows is reflected in the band's brand of punk-pop and previous single Dianne just edges things as the highlight of the set. A mini walkabout to shake hands with the crowd during the last number ensures that, even if you weren't there to see them, The Needles leave a smile on your face and at least one infectious tune in your head and, as we all know, tunes help you achieve more easily.
