The Killers @ Carling Academy

A spectacular show from start to finish; one to draw in doubters and delight diehard fans

As the overhead lights dimmed, so began the carnival music that was the central theme of The Killers' Glasgow performance. Frontman/circus-master Brandon Flowers took to the stage clad in a tartan bolero, leaping atop the speakers and wielding his microphone as a lion tamer brandishes his whip. From the opening 'Sam's Town', to older hits like 'Mr Brightside' and new single 'Bones', the audience were rarely given opportunity to relax. The Killers have evolved significantly since their last UK tour; their new confidence is palpable, their performance seamless - though Flowers' vocals were in danger of vanishing beneath the crowd's enthusiasm. After a short but tight set, the band returned for an encore including a rousing performance of 'All These Things I've Done', eventually finishing with Bowie-esque 'Exitlude' from their new album. A spectacular show from start to finish; one to draw in doubters and delight diehard fans. [Lucy Weir]
