The Hedrons - The Swamp @ Edinburgh

Their sound is strong enough but sadly the song writing is distinctively lacking

As regular readers of the Skinny will know, The Hedrons are an all-girl four-piece playing straight-up punk rock. They certainly look the part with All Stars, drainpipe jeans and guitars slung at knee height. Striding on stage they wasted no time, launching into a tight, fast paced set. Despite this bright opening I'm afraid I was soon beginning to tire of The Hedrons. Their sound is strong enough but sadly the song writing is distinctively lacking. This sort of punk band needs tunes that really reach out with a killer classic hook. The Hedrons will no doubt continue to attract plenty of attention, not for the reasons they might wish, but because they're a band of good-looking girls with guitars. At least that might buy them enough time to pen some sharper songs. [Dave Reid]
