T on the Fringe: Snow Patrol @ Meadowbank Stadium
Everything about Snow Patrol's biggest Scotland gig to date was superlative...
| 13 Sep 2006
Bounding on stage, guitar in tow, curly hair shorn, and sporting a New York Times T-shirt, Gary Lightbody fronts Snow Patrol like a seasoned pro. And so begins Snow Patrol's biggest Scottish gig to date, with the familiar chords of well-known tracks from Novello winning 'The Final Straw'. These intersperse with new songs showcasing latest number one LP 'Eyes Open'. They set the stage alight with current surprise chart-hit Chasing Cars, dedicated to Gary's dad. Lightbody by name, lightbody by nature; Gary has the boundless energy of a Duracell bunny, and though not many of SP's songs lend themselves easily to the mosh-pit, they don't fail to get the crowd moving. As the set ends and a 20,000 strong crowd leave in tandem, a bottleneck on London Road brings traffic to a standstill. It's like 'Shaun of the Dead' half the way back into town. A magical end to a magical evening. [Yasmin Ali]
