They looked as if they would rather not be there. Their style was straight out of 'Vogue'. Their beats were as cool as the Atlantic in December, but New Young Pony Club managed only a mediocre performance at Cabaret Voltaire tonight. Their opening tracks were reminiscent of recent Goldfrapp and Go! Team numbers, but front-woman Tahita certainly added a bit of angst to the proceedings. Her vocal style being similar to that of an angry toddler screaming over their elder brother's cool music. Undoubtedly, NYPC certainly have the tunes to get a crowd moving, and they seem to strengthen their performance as the show progresses. They make incredibly catchy, experimental music that remains obtainable and is loved by an eager audience, but maturity it seems is a goal yet to be achieved by the quintet. [Claire Mapletoft]
