RZA (as Bobby Digital) @ The Arches, 26 Apr

Article by Ryan Drever | 01 May 2008

The normally cavernous walls of the Arches were fit to burst tonight, as the RZA took to the stage and set off the crowd like a mortar in a bus shelter. Despite being billed as Bobby Digital (the RZA's lady lovin', Cristal sippin' alter-ego) only a handful of songs were played as such. That is, until the constant chants of "Wu! Tang!" became too much and, after a mysterious break, the RZA re-emerged and proceeded to rattle through most of his and the Clan's entire back catalogue.

With fluid delivery, the excitement only escalated as he pulled out all the "hits" (Shame on a Nigga, Wu-Tang Clan Ain't Nuttin ta F**K Wit') and a few surprises along the way, including cousin GZA's Liquid Swords and Gravediggaz' 1-800-Suicide. Visibly feeding off the energy of a crowd hungry for his every offering, The Wu-Tang leader screamed, ran headlong into the crowd and frequently cut the music to orchestrate chants that could rival most stadium shows- not bad for a man touching 40.
