Parka @ King Tut's

A cacophony of noise and cowbell banging

Tonight's show is kicked off by The Draymin who rustle up a fine cocktail of meaty hooks and neat melodies. Those in the crowd certainly love it, and sing back every word as if it were gospel.

Kizzy Star step up to the mark in unassuming fashion. Flattering to deceive, initially they soon provide ample reason to watch this particular constellation closely. The set is tight and polished and at times explodes into life, aided in particular by the exemplary variation of power and subtlety displayed by drummer Mick.

The stage is now perfectly set for Parka to come and knock us off our feet. With tracks like Mr Optimistic and There's a Riot they certainly do their best to make that happen. Making a return to his home town, frontman Matt Thomson is certainly up for it tonight. He goads the crowd and they in turn plead for more. Each song is greeted with a raucous cheer and as it descends into a cacophony of noise and cowbell banging the crowd simply lose themselves in the chaos. Disco Dancer is kept until the end and is accepted like a long lost brother, with open arms and an invitation to start the party afresh. [Neal Parsons]
