MySpace BleepBleep Tour @ Barfly

MySpace brings the unknown future stars of 'new rave' to a wider audience.

Whatever the actual value of Myspace as a forum for new music, its BleepBleep tour tonight brings three bands to a wider audience in an affordable package. The evening is kicked off by I Say Marvin - an indie-dance fusion with added keyboard squelches and mantra-like howling. For so young a band, they are confident, and their joy at being on the tour comes across in their short, sprightly set. Ali Love is more relaxed, evoking 1970s' funk. Sandwiched between two blasts of youthful noise, Love is mismatched: despite the more sophisticated songwriting, he feels too laid-back, and the music lacks the required bite. Pull Tiger Tail, however - credited by some as creators of the suddenly ubiquitous New Rave genre - are worthy headliners, showcasing a lively set that is more rock than dance. Their choppy guitars and pounding rhythms are loud and desperate: their songs race along with high energy much to the approval of an audience suitably intrigued by the commotion this lot have been causing.
