Gomez @ Barrowlands, 17 Nov

Every song showcases the bands extensive musical ability

Plenty of people believe that Gomez disappeared a long time ago. It's reckoned that after two albums, one mercury prize and a ream of tasty singles they simply vanished. Of course that's not true. Eight years since Bring it On was the darling of the British music industry the band are still making waves. Indeed, this year Gomez released their fifth studio album and took to the road. Extensive touring in America and Europe has clearly contributed to their amazing live show. Typical Glaswegian shouts of 'mon the Gomez' echo through the air as the band take to the stage, performing the last eight years' worth of singles. Every song explores the genres of rock, blues and electronica and showcases the bands extensive musical ability. In the brief breaks in concentration it's clear that seeing the sold out, pissed up Barrowland Ballroom chanting in unison is a little too much reverence to take in for the unassuming rock stars. Exactly what a live performance should be about, just the music. [Graeme Park]
