Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. @ QMU

in case you're wondering, the name was inspired by the sub-headings from a computer magazine

With an acoustic and laptop setup, accompanied by a drummer, a brass section and projected images, tonight Sam Duckworth manages to escape the limitations often associated with a solo singer-songwriter. His songs are a call to arms – fair trade, child labour, racism - and although Duckworth's politics are in danger of creating more of an impact than his music, he has some points worth making. Predictably describing Celebrity Big Brother as an "absolute fucking disgrace," of course, goes down particularly well tonight. Much of his set is comprised of songs from his debut, Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager, with the excellent 'Call Me Ishmael' striking a chord as an instant sing along. Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. has a youthful energy and enthusiasm that does set him somewhat apart from many of his comparatively dull contemporaries. Oh, and in case you're wondering, the moniker was inspired by the sub-headings from a computer magazine. [Julie Paterson]
