A trio of diverse bands staunchly testify that there is great promise brewing in the central belt

Tonight, a trio of diverse bands staunchly testify that there is great promise brewing in the central belt. Egg in a Tree, a hard rocking quintet from Glasgow, have a trick or two up their sleeves and exemplify a great rock sound with driving bass, tight guitar riffs and an earful of growling vocals from their bear-like mic-man. Crazy Vincent's major influences are Mod favourites such as the Small Faces and The Jam. They have more depth than most mod wannabes, however, thanks to some stylish fret-work, well-executed harmonies and their singer's distinctive tones. Dick Dangerous and the Love Bastards sound like they ought to be a fucking hoot and they soon had the party atmosphere set up in a heartbeat. Their style of ska punk meets rock'n'roll was executed nicely with attitude and style. Bannermans always have a tendency to mix up a healthy bill and although these bands may seem unlikely bedfellows, tonight the blend worked a treat. [Dave Reid]
