DOTR sauntered on stage armed with hilarious banter, as expected, but the gig was let down by the intensity of the music.

Support act the 55s kicked things off in a mixed fashion, following every good tune with something not nearly so accomplished. I suspect they have two songwriters, with the songs lead by one guitarist's vocals translating so much better, at least tonight. Then there was the disappointment of there being no Last Great Wilderness due to time restrictions. A tick after 8.30pm, DOTR sauntered on stage armed with hilarious banter, as expected, but the gig was at times let down by the intensity of the set. Although otherwise a good, fun gig with Little Driver and Science Fiction Freak being obvious highlights, there was a repetition in the lyrics that risked becoming tedious, and played live many of the songs sounded similar – losing the complexity of their recorded counterparts. This is all nit-picking though, everyone still had a rollicking good time and this is a damn fine band. [Dorian Williams]
