Amplifico - Cabaret Voltaire @ Edinburgh

Even the more skeptical back rows seemed to be drawn in by Donna Maciocia's vocals and those that got too close were pushed back on the floor with the punch of a dirty bass line

Tonight marks Amplifico's return to Edinburgh for their first headlining show in the city in nearly nine months. As such, the near capacity crowd were met with the energy of a band prepared to make a stab for the big time with this year's upcoming release. A group that blends bluesy keyboard hooks with a bit of guitar distortion around the edges, they manage to combine the personality of singer/songwriters with enough rock to move a mob of strangers. Even the more skeptical back rows seemed to be drawn in by Donna Maciocia's vocals and those that got too close were pushed back on the floor with the punch of a dirty bass line and the muscled swing of Dave Brunton's drums. It's worth catching them while they're still unsigned to get a front row listen to their evolving sound. [Jon Mercer]
