Seu Jorge - TrocaBrahma (July Event, Web Only)

TrocaBrahma is the kind of mottled occasion that pre-empts the life and soul of the Fringe, boasting the best Brazilian you'll see this side of the Pubic Triangle

The World Cup has a lot to answer for. I'm not only referring to its belittling of Amazonian kind following the premature parting of the Brazilians to the French, but it also gave ITV the daft doctrine that Kasabian covering a Bowie song in a foreign tongue would sound good. Cue the saviour of the day, on both fronts, Mr Jorge, or to his friends, the coolest boy named Seu since Live from San Quentin.

For those who aren't au fait with him, Seu Jorge is one of the stars of the Academy Award nominated Portuguese language magnum Opus that is 'City of God'. He also starred alongside Bill Murray in 'The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou'. Oh, and did I forget to mention he's a nifty musician? Aside from canning a series of peachy Portuguese Thin White Duke covers for the soundtrack of the aforementioned (check out Queen Bitch and Rebel Rebel), he has recorded two samba tinged solo albums.

On July 28 Seu is substituting the Copacabana Beach (Rio's equivalent of Musselburgh) for our very own Usher Hall. And he's bringing his mates too. 'TrocaBrahma' exhibits a hugely multicultural line up as it attempts to fuse the local (see Glaswegian 1990's) with the, well, not so local (try Latino drum n bass upstarts Drumagick out for size). It's less international, more universal.

And if that wasn't enough to prick yer ears up, then fling uber-eclectic
superstar DJ Gilles Peterson into the mix and you've got an all embracing veritable line-up of music that will circumnavigate the globe in the kind of time that gives Willie Fogg wet dreams.
