Scottish Gig Highlights: 27-31 Oct
It’s not all about Halloween this weekend, so don’t be scared to leave your house for something other than a fancy dress party, or to go trick or treating – there are gigs galore, right at your finger tips with no dress code required. Bingo!
Thu 27 Oct
Aberdeen’s The Little Kicks have just released a brand new single, You and Someone Like Me, and they’re going on a wee tour to celebrate. Check out the track, and pretty cool video below. As well as Voodoo Rooms, you can also catch them at Dundee’s Brewdog on Friday 28 October, and Aberdeen’s Underdog on Saturday 29 October.
Voodoo Rooms, 7pm, £7
Also worth checking out on Thursday is a stripped back performance from Glasgow-based Admiral Fallow, with support from Jo Mango and Cathode Ray at Edinburgh’s Electric Circus in aid of Edinburgh Carers Council. Meanwhile in Glasgow, Sheffield duo Slow Club play Oran Mor and Glass Animals have sold out The Art School. If you’ve got tickets for that, we’re pretty god damn envious! Please have lots of fun for us! Phew; busy Thursday.
Fri 28 Oct
Glasgow’s Bossy Love are bringing their R&B tinged disco vibes to Edinburgh’s Mash House, guaranteeing a non-stop dance party with their high-energy live show. The perfect Friday night, if you ask us. Support comes from Brother Michelle. Bossy Love also play The Poetry Club in Glasgow on Saturday 29 October.
The Mash House, 7pm, £7.50
Much like Thursday, there’s a lot happening on Friday night. If you fancy a creepy start to your Halloween weekend, head along to Nothing Ever Happens Here Day of the Dead Party with Our Ladies of Sorrow and Bad Habitz. Bart from eagleowl explained the inspiration behind the event earlier in the week – read his thoughts here. And if you’re in the Weej, check out mildly-terrifying Shiitake Mushroom lovers Let’s Eat Grandma at Glasgow's Broadcast
Sat 29 Oct
We’ve got a bit of a crush on Ezra Furman. Not only is he a beautiful individual, with impeccable fashion sense, but his music is catchy and full of optimism. It’s pop, but not as you know it.
Liquid Room, 7pm, £14
Elsewhere, catch the bittersweet sounds of Martha Ffion at Electric Circus, or head west-side for Hooton Tennis Club + SWEAT at Stereo, Glasgow.
Sun 30 Oct
Oh Pep! Are an Australian folk/pop band from Melbourne – their songs are rich and full of warmth, and definitely more pop than folk. In 2014 they were named Young Folk Performer of the Year at the National Folk Festival in Canberra, so they are definitely ones to watch. Catch them live this Sunday in Glasgow. Support from Tom Vevers.
The Hug & Pint, 7pm, £6
On the same night in the capital, you can catch Birmingham four-piece Johnny Foreigner at Sneaky Pete’s (7pm, £7).
Mon 31 Oct
Brix and the Extricated play Sneaky’s on Monday. Brix Smith-Start is best known for her time as a member of Mark E Smith's cult outfit The Fall, so it’s guaranteed to be a live show that packs a punch. And we wouldn’t be surprised if there were a Fall cover, or two, in there either. If you can’t make it to the Edinburgh show, then fret not, for you can also catch them at Dundee’s Beat Generator Live! the night before (30 Oct).
Sneaky Pete’s, 7pm, £13.50
