Edinburgh-via-Wisconsin rockers Garbage are back, and they’ll be celebrating the 20th anniversary of their second album Version 2.0 with a special edition release of the album and an extensive world tour. Shirley Manson and co begin the tour tonight in Edinburgh with support from Honeyblood, with a stop in Glasgow tomorrow at the Barras before continuing on across the globe.

Screaming Females @ The Mash House, 4 Sep
New Jersey alt-rockers Screaming Females stop into Edinburgh's Mash House tonight celebrating their seventh studio album, All at Once, released at the start of the year.

Powersolo @ Opium, 9 Sep
If you fancy some Danish psychobilly grooves in your life then look no further than Powersolo who play Edinburgh's Opium tonight in celebration of their latest album, BO-PEEP.

Terry @ Sneaky Pete's, 9 Sep
The Melbourne, Australia four-piece just released their third album in as many years and it's bags of fun. Made up of Amy Hill, Xanthe Waite, Zephyr Pavey and Al Montfort, Terry are a lo-fi art-pop wonder and not to be missed tonight in the capital. If tonight won't work for you, you can also catch them on 8 September at Broadcast in Glasgow.

Scottish Event of the Week

Strange (Birthday) Invitation: Lost Map's 5th Birthday All-Dayer @ St Peter's Hall, Edinburgh, 8 Sep
In case you missed the news, the Johnny Lynch-headed, Isle of Eigg-based record label Lost Map turned five this year, and they’re really milking the celebrations. Following on from two separate parties in July, the celebrations continue into September with their Strange (Birthday) Invitation all-dayer. After all, they do say go hard or go home. Free Love (fka Happy Meals) are headlining today's shenanigans with Pictish Trail, Bas Jan, Alabaster dePlume, Group Listening, Victoria Hume and eagleowl all also playing. Read our recent chat with Lynch here.

Gigs in Glasgow this week

The The @ Barrowlands, 4 Sep; Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, 5 Sep
Responsible for perhaps one of the best actual songs ever in This is the Day, Matt Johnson's The The touch down in Glasgow for two nights back to back at the Barras and the Royal Concert Hall respectively. If you can't make it, get Empire Records on the tellybox featuring the aforementioned song in one of the most perfect coming-of-age films ever.

Iceage @ The Great Eastern, 6 Sep
Those lovely lads and lasses at Synergy Concerts have only bloody well gone and decided to launch a live music venue within a daycare centre. Yup. We went to check it out last month during their launch event and what a ruddy great space it is. Throughout the course of September, October and November there are already a slew of great shows lined up for this unusual space, so get down to check it out and catch Danish punks Iceage – whose latest album Beyondless we awarded five stars – while you’re at it.

ST.MARTiiNS @ Poetry Club, 7 Sep
One of our favourite bands to come out of Dundee, catch the dream-pop loveliness of ST.MARTiiNS as they headline SWG3's Poetry Club tonight.

Fast Approaches @ The 13th Note, 7 Sep
Fast Approaches are set to play their second ever show tonight at The 13th Note. Featuring an ex-jesus h. foxx member and members of Two Wings, we reckon this one is worth checking out. Not to mention the two songs on their SoundCloud are rad as all hell! Support tonight comes from Slushy Guts and Personality Toilet. Top band names all round.

Campfires in Winter @ The Hug & Pint, 8 Sep
Glasgow's Campfires in Winter have been in hiding for a wee while so it's nice to see they're back and playing the Hug tonight. Support will come from SHREDD and Megan Airlie; an interesting trio of acts to be on one bill. Tonight's event is the first in a series of fundraisers taking place over the next year to help raise money to launch a brand new festival, Island Language, in Nethercroy next summer. Nice.

Lithics @ The Hug & Pint, 9 Sep
Relatively fresh from releasing their sophomore long player Mating Surfaces, Portland, Oregon's Lithics stop by The Hug & Pint tonight with their infectious brand of angular and artful indie-pop. Get to getting!

Peanut Butter Wolf @ Stereo, 10 Sep
Stones Throw Records label founder Christopher George Manak, aka Peanut Butter Wolf, plays Glasgow's Stereo tonight. Responsible for helping develop the likes of Madlib, J Dilla and Anderson .Paak among others, it's set to be a scorcher full of buoyant hip-hop beats.
