Gigs in Edinburgh this week

Avalanche Party @ Sneaky Pete's, 2 Oct
In January, if you can remember that far back, North Yorkshire noise merchants Avalanche Party played Sneaky's as part of their Independent Venue Week celebrations and they're back tonight for another raucous evening of music, with the equally boisterous Canshaker Pi in town. Yay, October is here!

Husky Loops @ Sneaky Pete's, 3 Oct
Husky Loops are set to release their new 12" EP Spool on limited edition gold vinyl at the end of the month, which features their catchy new single Everytime I Run. Catch them tonight with support from Snide Rhythms and Midi Paul.

Their 2017 EP, Made Simple is full of equally catchy bangers, so be sure to head down to Sneaky's tonight to hear them in all their infectious indie-pop wonder with support from Lazy Day and The Mink Stoles. Can't make tonight, then catch them at The Hug & Pint, Glasgow, 6 Oct.

Kate Bush Dance Party: Baby Bushka @ The Mash House, 7 Oct
This might be the actual perfect way to round off your weekend if you're feeling in a nostalgic mood. Baby Bushka are an eight-piece Kate Bush covers band from the States; Wuthering Heights, Running Up That Hill, A Woman's Work, Hounds of Love and Babooshka are all sure to get an airing.

Dan Owen @ The Mash House, 8 Oct
Shrewsbury singer-songwriter Dan Owen brings his dreamy debut LP, Stay Awake With Me, to The Mash House tonight. He also plays King Tut's, Glasgow, 9 Oct.

Scottish Event of the Week

[Virginia Wing by Stuart Moulding]

Virginia Wing @ Sneaky Pete's, 7 Oct
Manchester-based duo Virginia Wing combine 60s-esque pop melodies with textured synths and layered percussion on their third album Ecstatic Arrow, undeniably one of the year’s best. In a recent support slot for Hookworms, irked by the male-heavy crowds, the duo performed several dates with the words “END RAPE CULTURE” projected behind them. Let’s hope it won’t have to come to that again.

Gigs in Glasgow this week

Deafheaven @ Classic Grand, 2 Oct
Following the release of their latest album, Ordinary Corrupt Human Life, in July, California-based Deafheaven touch down in Glasgow tonight giving you the opportunity to experience George Clarke's howling vocals in the flesh. Support from Inter Arma.

S.Carey @ Stereo, 3 Oct
Best known as the drummer and supporting vocalist of Bon Iver, tonight Sean Carey steps into the limelight at Glasgow's Stereo to celebrate his latest solo record, Hundred Acres.

Jeff Lynne's ELO @ SSE Hydro, 3 Oct
Best known as the band behind the hit Mr. Blue Sky, head along to the SSE Hydro tonight to hear Jeff Lynne's ELO. Expect to hear bangers like the aforementioned Mr. Blue Sky as well as Evil Woman, Don't Bring Me Down, Last Train to London and more.

Mikaela Davis @ The Hug & Pint, 4 Oct
New York country-tinged singer-songwriter Mikaela Davis is touring her debut album, Delivery right now and hits The Hug & Pint tonight with support from Jared Celosse and Jo Mango.

Amber Arcades @ Mono, 5 Oct
Dutch singer-songwriter Annelotte De Graaf who performs under the name Amber Arcades recently released her sophomore record European Heartbreak which we awarded five stars describing it as "utterly gorgeous." Catch her at Mono tonight with support from Basement Revolver and Molly Linen.

Darwin Deez @ Òran Mór, 5 Oct
While there's nothing quite so catchy as Radar Detector on his latest album, 10 Songs That Happened When You Left Me With My Stupid Heart (catchy, right?), we'd still recommend heading along for a dance to Darwin Deez's latest collection of tunes.
