Is this the end for Efterklang?

Three-piece Danish experimentalists Efterklang have hinted at a possibly imminent break-up – in a post on their website, the trio have announced their 'last concert' – described as "one show to end them all," to take place on 26 Feb in Sønderborg, Denmark, on the island of Als, where the band grew up.

Efterklang have been releasing records for a decade, and in the post, they speculate about their possible future, without confirming any details. "t will be the last concert with Efterklang as you and we know it," the post reads. "We are not sure what happens after this concert. It is time to reflect and time to move forward. We want to fundamentally change what it means to be Efterklang and how we operate, create and perform."

The NME paraphrases a spokesman from their label 4AD, who speculated that the band had not confirmed their split, but instead committed to "taking a lengthy break to weigh up their options, likely drawing a line under their career so far, and potentially returning as another band under a different name."

The show will feature orchestra enemble Sønderjyllands Symfoniorkester, conductor Hans Ek, and the area's local girls choir, as well as original members Thomas Husmer and Rune Mølgaard. The band will play highlights from their four albums, and songs which have never seen the light of day. The band will not be touring the show, which they describe as: "an exploration, a rite of passage, a strange celebration." Buy tickets here.
