Download a free EP by LAW

Edinburgh-based singer Lauren Holt, aka LAW, has been on our radar for some time now – she played at The Skinny's showcase at Edinburgh University's Pleasance Sessions last year alongside Rick Redbeard, Siobhan Wilson and Honeyblood, and we've enjoyed her support slots for avant garde hip-hop crew Young Fathers. Now, LAW has made her EP Haters & Gangsters available for free download from her Soundcloud page.

Originally hailing from Leicester, Holt moved to Edinburgh in 2010 and hasn't looked back. Working with Young Fathers producer Timothy London, she dropped the magnificent track Hustle last year and played a string of support slots with the Anticon-signed band, and began working on more tracks with London.

Now, the results are here, and they don't disappoint – London's hook-filled, studiously hard-edged, feral beats accompany her strong, clear-eyed lyrics and dynamic vocal performances across the span of the EP's 7 tracks. It's a revolutionary new blueprint for R 'n' B and soul, and promises great things for her eventual full-length debut – and it's a brilliant companion piece to Young Fathers' debut, DEAD. LAW will be touring the UK with Young Fathers next month.
