Help Meursault crowdfund their way to SxSW

Article by Dave Kerr | 22 Jan 2014

Edinburgh's Meursault are attending South By Southwest this year – and to fund their trip to Austin, TX, the band will be releasing a hand-picked album of tracks to their fans, with a series of special rewards available for generous donors.

It will be the band's first visit to the USA: "Three albums and five years down the line, we think this is the time to go for it," they write on the page for their Kickstarter campaign. "If we go out to SxSW 2014 we will then book an East Coast tour, and try and get to as many of our US fans as we possibly can. We now have pals in the States who can help us book, and enough interest from US-based music folk that we reckon we can really make this worth our while doing, and hopefully worth your while helping us out."

The album, which will go under the title of The Organ Grinder's Monkey, will feature tracks from a planned session recorded for their Song, By Toad label. They will record the tracks live in February, before voting commences on which tracks should feature on the album. Then they will play a series of launch shows, on 21 Feb at The Haven Cafe in Newhaven, on 23 and 24 Feb at two secret locations on Edinburgh's Royal Mile, and then a final secret gig somewhere "big and shiny" on 1 March.

Pledge rewards include tickets to these shows, a copy of the album itself, official artwork, and for really big spenders, the choice of a cover song to feature on the album. Get involved here, and watch the campaign video below.
