Great news for Simpsons and Futurama fans, Matt Groening is currently making a new 20-episode animated series, with the first ten episodes set to appear on Netflix in 2018. Disenchantment is described as “an adult animated comedy fantasy series”, and we’re told the animation will take viewers to “the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci.”

This oddball trio will bump into a whole host of fantasy creatures, including ogres, sprites, harpies, imps and trolls, as well as walruses and lots of human fools. “Ultimately," says Groening, "Disenchantment will be about life and death, love and sex, and how to keep laughing in a world full of suffering and idiots, despite what the elders and wizards and other jerks tell you."

The main vocal talent includes Abbi Jacobson as Bean, Nat Faxon as Elfo and Eric Andre as Luci. We’re told the cast will also feature some Futurama favourites like John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille and David Herman. Curiously, other guest vocals will come from comic talent well-known to British audiences like Noel Fielding, Matt Berry, Rich Fulcher and Lucy Montgomery. The animation is being handled by Rough Draft Studios, who worked with Groening on Futurama.

"Matt Groening's brilliant work has resonated with generations around the world and we couldn't be happier to work with him on Disenchantment," says Cindy Holland, vice president of original content for Netflix. "The series will bear his trademark animation style and biting wit, and we think it's a perfect fit for our many Netflix animation fans."

Disenchantment's first ten episodes are scheduled to arrive on Netflix in 2018.
