There are a few problems that the latest installment of Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man has to overcome. One: the brilliant animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is fresh in film fans' minds and has raised the bar in what we expect from a Spider-Man movie. And two (spoiler): Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, turned to a pile of ash at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.

Those obstacles aside, the first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home, the sequel to 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, looks pretty promising. It offers something we’ve not seen from a Spider-Man movie before: the hero fighting crime outside of his hometown of New York. The first trailer shows Peter Parker getting ready to head on a trip to Europe with some of his school friends, visiting cities like Venice and London along the way. This summer break is hijacked, however, when Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) pays him a visit.

We also get a glimpse of Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio in the trailer, although he and Spider-Man seem to be on the same side as they both take on a foe made of water rising out of the Venice canals. The trailer also shows the superhero swinging across Tower Bridge and awkwardly dealing with his crush on Zendaya’s MJ.
