As the festive season approaches, it's time yet again to reflect on those less fortunate, so what better way to celebrate such winter traditions as bankruptcy and attempted suicide than a screening of Frank Capra's It's A Wonderful Life which is on - as it has been every Christmas since His dad only knows when - at the Glasgow Film Theatre. Its run starts on the 14th, but if you book early enough you may be able to get seats for Christmas Eve, when you'll be greeted with some mulled wine and a mince pie. For football fans looking for a comparably spiritual experience there is a double bill of Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait and George Best: Football Like Never Before at 2pm on Sunday 10th. Tickets can be booked by phone at 0141 332 8128.

With Galileo orbiting in his grave, The Science Centre plays host this month to Glasgow's Christmas Party, which will include a screening of Santa Vs. The Snowman along with planetarium presentations, plus games and toy workshops for all would-be elves. It all takes place on the 12th, although similar events will be accompanying Polar Express 3-D from the 22nd until the 9th of January. Details at www.glasgowscience centre.org.

The King of Kings may have his birthday coming up soon, but some may also wish to rejoice in the memory of the King of Graceland, Mr. Elvis Aaron Presley, who is currently the subject of an exhibition at the Gallery of Modern Art running until 14 January. On the 14th of December however, the event will be accompanied by a screening of the short documentary by Linda Ann McConnell, Elvis, How Great thou Art – A Portrait of the Artist, showing in Gallery 2 at 6:30. The event is free, and admission welcome to all.
