Trust The Man

A smart romantic comedy.

Film Review by Matt Arnoldi | 13 Oct 2006
Film title: Trust The Man
Director: Bart Freundlich
Starring: David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, Billy Crudup, Maggie Gyllenhaal
Release date: September 22nd
Certificate: 15

A smart romantic comedy, 'Trust the Man' is all about the lives and loves of modern-day New Yorkers: an actress (Moore), her house-husband (Duchovny), her slacker younger brother (Crudup) and his girlfriend (Gyllenhaal) as they get tempted with infidelity, and try to cope with careers, the hassles of resident Manhattan parking, guidance counsellors and that old bug-bear, trust. If you feel like you've seen all this before, that's probably because you have. Writer/director Freundlich's comedy is fairly derivative of other romcom flicks, but is elevated by a cast to die for (yes, David Duchovny can act). It doesn't always ring true and there are moments when it feels a little contrived but, as a film that gives you a good cast and some good one-liners, 'Trust the Man' should be in deman even if he's not to be trusted of course!
