Many of E4’s ‘Skins’ cast are to be found in Jon Wright’s budget Brit flick classroom horror Tormented in which Darren Mullet, a fat asthmatic boy gets bullied into committing suicide, and then comes back to exact revenge on former classmates. The film has readily identifiable stereotypes: arrogant macho bullying males, leggy flirty girls, doe-eyed goths and a straight-laced head girl all of whom begin to panic when an angry blue-veined Mullet starts to bump them off in increasingly inventive ways. This is a comedic gorefest derivative of films like Carrie and Friday the 13th Part 2. It doesn’t always work, some playground scenes are extraneous, Mullet’s form is revealed a little too quickly and there are credibility issues – would a ghost need an inhaler? and could he survive in water? Tormented though has plenty of gore, is particularly funny early on and it’s always good seeing the smuggest bullies cop it.
