The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Film Review by Paul Greenwood | 19 Jun 2008
Film title: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Director: Andrew Adamson
Starring: Georgie Henley, William Moseley, Ben Barnes
Release date: 26 Jun
Certificate: PG

The adaptations of the C.S. Lewis saga of Jesus-lions and unfeasibly roomy furniture continue apace with this thoroughly satisfying second chapter in which the Pevensie children, the once and future kings and queens of Narnia, return after 1000 years to the magical land, essentially to take part in a massive barney. An initially confusing bout of what seems to be a re-enactment of the Spanish Civil War is actually an introduction to the nasty Telmarines who now speak of the Narnians as myth and legend and have usurped the rightful heir, Prince Caspian (Barnes), who joins up with the Pevensies to restore order. Improving massively on the first outing in terms of pace, scope, effects and the acting of the youngsters, Prince Caspian offers sweeping, stunningly realised battles and surprisingly brutal confrontations featuring heavily armed children, regularly conjuring moments of awe and majesty not seen since Lord of the Rings.
