A sweet tale, enlivened by a likeable cast.

It's 1966 and young Bernie (Sulkin) is looking forward to his Bar Mitzvah. Unfortunately, his parents have scheduled it for the same day as the World Cup Final - if England reach the final, Bernie realises that practically the only people at the Bar Mitzvah will be him and the rabbi. So, as he prays for them to lose (he considers putting a curse on them his best option) we follow Bernie's preparations for his big day alongside family troubles with his downtrodden father (Marsan), the England team all the while marching towards their destiny. Inspired by the director's own experiences, 'Sixty Six' is a sweet tale, enlivened by a likeable cast. There's not much to it, but it's charming and funny and worth a look. Then again, maybe it will be ignored by every single person in Scotland. [Paul Greenwood]
