Failure To Launch

The two leads spark off each other nicely, but it's the supporting cast that really shine.

It's official, Matthew McConaughey is the new Meg Ryan. Hot on the heels of 'The Wedding Planner' and 'How To Lose a Guy in 10 Days', he scores with this film, a cut above the aforementioned movies and recent stabs at the genre. Tripp is in his mid-thirties and still living at home with his parents, until they hire Paula (Parker) as the honey trap to make him fall in love and move out. Everything goes to plan until, inevitably, they really fall for each other only for him to find out the truth. The two leads spark off each other nicely, but it's the supporting cast that really shine, particularly Zooey Deschanel as Parker's flatmate plagued by a mockingbird. The twists and turns here breathe new life into a tired genre and will put a smile on your face. [craig simpson]
