Greg Mottola’s follow up to Superbad is a quirky comedy telling a familiar coming-of-age story: recent graduate James (Jesse Eisenberg) is spending the summer working at an amusement park when he ends up falling in love with local girl Em (Twilight's Kirsten Stewart). During James' time at the park, he also meets a range of likeable misfits who help and hinder him on his emotional journey to adulthood. It’s these side characters and stories that really make the film, with the next generation of comedic actors shining through, especially Martin Starr who plays pipe-smoking Joel and delivers some of the film's best lines. For kids of the 80s, the dodgy haircuts, cringe worthy clothes and greatest-hits soundtrack also add nostalgia value. Adventureland takes you on a cinematic rollercoaster that won't change your life but might make you want to experience it more than once.
