Short Film Showcases, Aberdeen

Article by Fraser Denholm | 16 Feb 2009

If you are seeking a little more diversity to your February cinematic experience, and the weather has hampered efforts to attend the Glasgow Film Festival, then two independent short film screenings in Aberdeen could be the seasonal relief you've been looking for. The Local Film Screening at Project Slogan (Langstane Place) on the 20th is an offering of moving image works from Aberdeen-based filmmakers and artists. The event will give an insight into the wide range of video/digital film being made in the city - and hosted within the friendly and relaxed atmosphere that this standing-room only arts location projects. Post-viewing entertainment comes from the DO IT! ensemble suggesting this creative get-together will continue into the wee hours.

Dances with Love is the latest selection from Future Shorts, and is a more traditional affair, taking seat at the Belmont Picture House on the 24th. This, the second Aberdeen event in the series, showcases shorts from Iceland to Iran including Sundance winning Lies, BAFTA awarded Shanxiou Village, Golden Palm-winning Zhanxiou Village plus something special from the legendary Abbas Kiarostami. And there's still plenty of time to catch Tom Cruise in knee-length leather boots, if you so fancy.
