Luke has it all, or so he thinks. Living in the heart of New York’s gay ghetto, he’s handsome, charming, has his pick of one night stands and oozes bitchy one liners that would turn Joan Crawford to stone. Naturally, he’s horrified when new-hunk-on-the-block Stephen (Dante’s Cove’s Charlie David) rejects him for being a gay cliché! Shaken to the core and inspired by friends who’ve made it work, he resolves to give monogamy with Stephen a shot. But things aren’t quite as simple as they ought to be... Casper Andreas’ A Four Letter Word is a disarmingly funny adventure about finding love which deftly challenges stereotypes without being overly preachy. Jesse Archer (who also wrote the screenplay) gives Luke a sense of humanity in between the insults, and we root for him as he slowly matures and discovers what he really wants from life. Hugely enjoyable and often laugh-out-loud funny, this comes with a valuable message: without honesty, “love” is meaningless. Something everyone, gay or straight, can relate to.
