1. The Scouting Book for Boys

Tom Harper makes his feature film debut with The Scouting Book for Boys – a lyrical tale of misguided love set in a caravan park on the beautiful Norfolk coast. Thomas Turgoose (This is England, Somers Town) plays against type as shy David who offers to help his close friend Emily (Holliday Grainger) disappear when her personal life gets complicated. Both the director and Turgoose will be at the screening on 11 Feb – which is also the young actor’s 18th Birthday!

2. An Audience with Skins

Skins season 4 has kicked off and to celebrate writer, Ben Schiffer and actor Joe Dempsie (Chris from seasons 1 and 2) will be at the GFT to discuss the critically acclaimed teen drama and to answer that all important question: do 17-year-olds really get up to that much mischief?

3. Ponyo

Japanese Anime has found new audiences in recent years helped in part by the success of Hayao Miyazaki’s Spirited Away and Howl’s Moving Castle. Ponyo is the director’s follow up and is an imaginative version of The Little Mermaid story – a young boy meets a talking goldfish who longs to be human and soon becomes swept up in a fantastical adventure. See the film here first before it goes on general release on 12 February.

4. Stella

Stella is the story of a young girl who lives above her parents’ bar in Paris. She has little fashion sense, can’t talk to boys and starts fights at her posh school which all amount to her being classed as a teenage oddball. It’s a heartfelt depiction of growing up in 1970s Paris that will resonate with anyone who’s ever felt a little bit different to everyone else.

5. Summerhood

‘Foetus’ is 10 years old and about to embark on a summer at a hectic summer camp with his friends (all sporting equally bizarre nicknames). John Cusack narrates this charming comedy with impressive performances from its young cast.
