T Break 2009

Another year, another T in the Park, another T Break. Of all the events on the Scottish circuit, none is likely to provoke as much bickering, eyebrow raising and schadenfreude; there is no misunderstanding its importance.

This stage, after all, has been a vital stepping stone, an important part in the development, for many a household name now entrenched in the collective consciousness - Snow Patrol and Biffy Clyro first came to prominence here, among many, many others. There is always space for the best unsigned talent in the country, always a few surprises along the way.

This year is no exception. While there will be the usual moans, specifically with regard to the talent not on show (it's worth bearing in mind bands had to enter themselves), it's a strong, interesting and unexpected line-up.

Punch and the Apostles will stop any passer by in their with the frenetic energy of their live show, We Are Trapped in Kansas will softly beckon them in with a warm hand outstretched, ready to entrance with their spare, ghostly post-rock. Then there’s Glasgow's sublime Bronto Skylift, reiterating the post-punk influence of greats like Helmet and Nirvana. And as for who will be following in Snow Patrol's footsteps? It's anyone's guess. Just enjoy the show.
