Òran Mór @ West End Festival, 10-27 June

Standing under its own tall spire on the corner of Byres and Great Western Road, the converted church that is Òran Mór will be a highly visible musical focal point during this month's West End Festival. Sixteen shows running throughout the Festival sees a strong line-up which crosses genres, musical timelines and has a strong Scottish flavour.

Ian McCulloch has never been accused of hiding his light under a bushel and during 'An evening with...' Mac will doubtless be giving his own trumpet a hefty gam. To be fair, as trumpets go, it is definitely worth a blow, and the likes of The Cutter, Seven Seas and Bring On The Dancing Horses stand strong comparison with his contemporaries. Of a similar vintage, Eddi Reader plays a double header on the 22nd and 23rd and perennial festival favourites Peatbog Faeries headline on the 24th.

At the younger end of the spectrum Chemikal Underground's Zoey van Goey are just completing their second album and will be unveiling the fruits of their labours on the 17th , while singer songwriter Beerjacket gets the stool out on 18th. Fence records founder Kenny Anderson dons his King Creosote moniker for a show on the 16th and Luka Bloom will be kicking off the whole shebang on the 10th.

Rounding the festival off with a homecoming gig is the Hamish Stuart Band on the 27th. Apart from his spell in the Average White Band, Stuart has also played bass for the likes of Paul McCartney and Aretha Franklin, making for an impressive musical CV.

Add in shows that include The Threepenny Opera, Lau, Kings of Queen, Mr Kil, Three Blind Wolves, Glasgow Gospel Choir, Mr McFall's Chamber and Rab Noakes and the Òran Mór should be one of the liveliest deconsecrated spots in town.
