The Manipulate visual theatre and film festival has unveiled its 2015 programme, with a huge array of puppetry, dance, theatre and film set for Aberdeen and Edinburgh early next year.

Puppetry stalwart Eric Bass will bring his Autumn Portraits show to Manipulate for its Scottish premiere, while the festival will also see the UK premiere of Ramesh Meyyappan’s Madame Butterfly adaptation Butterfly, with assistant direction by Ross MacKay, artistic director of Edinburgh visual theatre company Tortoise in a Nutshell.

Elsewhere, Edinburgh-based aerial dance theatre company All or Nothing present the world premiere of their new production Three’s A Crowd, with the theatre programme also featuring work from Russia, Belgium, France, and Estonia.

In Manipulate’s animation strand, Will Anderson and Ainslie Henderson will discuss their BAFTA Scotland-winning film Monkey Love Experiments, while fellow BAFTA Scotland nominee and SMHAFF award-winner Claire Lamond hosts a screening of her work as well as pieces by some of her key influences.

Elsewhere in the animation programme, Neil Kempsell presents his two films created to commemorate acclaimed Scottish musician and composer Martyn Bennett, and Thomas Hicks will host screenings of ten of his short films in the Music & Moving Image: Experiments & Explorations event.

Away from the main programme, Fabrizio Montecchi and Polina Borisova will host masterclasses at Summerhall on shadow theatre and puppetry respectively, while the Traverse will play host to emerging artists’ work-in-progress in the Snapshots strand.

Manipulate Visual Art Festival runs from 30 Jan to 7 Feb 2015; read the full line-up here.
