Festival Watch: Sónar 2014, with Massive Attack, Richie Hawtin and more

Sónar Barcelona (12-14 June) has announced the first wave of acts confirmed to play the 2014 edition of Europe's most established music festival dedicated to forward-thinking electronic music. Headliners include Massive Attack, presenting the world premiere of their new live show, which the festival's statement says will "further their ongoing audio visual exploration of agitation propaganda and technology."

It has been a decade since the group appeared at Sónar. This year, the band collaborated with documentary filmmaker Adam Curtis at the Manchester International Festival – see the trailer for their work below. 

Also slated to appear at the festival are techno legend Richie Hawtin, who will be debuting his new live show, Objekt, which features the long-awaited return of his Plastikman guise. He will also be performing under his own name. Appearing alonsgide him will be some of the cream of UK and international electronic artists, including Four Tet, James Holden, Jon Hopkins, Oneohtrix Point Never, Evian Christ, Caribou, Matmos, Gesaffelstein, Jessy Lanza, Bonobo, and Moderat.

Tickets are on sale now. Sónar also has outings next year in Reykjavik (13-15 Feb) and Stockholm (14-15 Feb).
